Turkey & Trout
This past weekend was a wild one – we were kayaking on Saturday in 70-degree sunshine and by Sunday we were bundled up watching the snow. The water was at a great level for a leisurely trip on the Mighty Clinch, rolling along at just 451 cfs. Since Saturday, we have had some rain and the levels have risen slightly, showing 549 cfs this morning. For the weekend, the weather will be a little rainy, but temperatures will be climbing. We are looking forward to kayaking the Clinch and maybe doing a little fishing too! What will you be up to? Trout fishing, turkey hunting, kayaking? We would love to hear from you!
Fishing:
This weekend marks the annual Trout Heritage Day in several areas in Virginia. Heritage Day is an opportunity for anglers who remember the days when the areas were stocked, and a shot was fired to signal the start of fishing. Do you remember those days? Share your stories with us, we would love to hear them. Locally, several lakes and streams are being stocked Saturday. Fishing is prohibited in these waters on Friday, April 5 but fishing will resume at 9am Saturday, April 6. For more information, visit https://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/trout-heritage-day/. If you would like to purchase your trout license or fee-fishing area permit, stop by and see us this week. We have an assortment of trout lures, including Worden’s Rooster Tails, any size just $2.99! Unique Find:
Bridge was at the height of its popularity in the 1940’s – 1960’s and it was during this time that games such as this week’s unique find, “Autobridge Play-Yourself Bridge Game” became popular. These games were available in the Beginners Set, like ours, as well as an intermediate and advanced version. While the games were an entertaining way to enjoy bridge alone, they were primarily designed to teach players the games.
Thank you for taking time to read each week, we really appreciate it! This will be a busy week for the outdoors so be sure to get out there and “Clinch Life!”
